boredperv replied: "You can try: A A Wanamaker Rents Inc. 205 W Olive Ave Burbank, CA, 91502 (818) 842-5288 Though I seem to recall they changed names recently. You can also try the tool rental section at a local Home Depot, you would be surprised what they have."

What kind of pressure washer should I rent to power wash a deck, and what will the approximate cost be? I've volunteered to pressure wash a friend's deck that is approximately 20' L X 8' W. I want to complete the job in one day since the house is 100 miles from my home and I'm only going to stay over one night. I know that pressure washers are rated by the number of PSI (pounds per square inch). Can anyone tell me how many PSI I should get in a rental? Is my hope to finish the job in one day realistic? The deck boards are pretty dirty due to lots of trees all around. Any other advice would be welcome.

shelly s replied: "what type of wood?, if it's pine,, be VERY carefull pressure washing,, since the pressure acually takes off layers of wood.you must keep it at an even spray, other wise you will end up with light, and dark spots. and the wood will be un even.your better off taking some dawn dish soap with a scrub brush, and simply washing it off with a hose. my home is cedar, and my decks are pine.I've had to do this many times."

hometech02 replied: "like the other said.. it can blow holes right into the wood.. stay even height and use a wide fan spray head.. i would stick to 2000psi and no more than 2500psi.. since it sounds like your first stay closer to the 2000."

Bart S replied: "In my opinion a 2000 to 2550 PSI unit would do the best job for you. This would give you enough cleaning power to not be all day getting it done, and gentle enough to not rip the wood apart from extreme pressure. Start on a surface not easily seen until you get used to the machine, and use straight even strokes slightly overlapping as not to streak the deck"

pcbeachrat replied: "At least 2000 psi..get one with a ohc engine, not a common gasoline lawnmower engine..they suck....Rent the pressure washer near your friends house for that area won't take half a day ..nowhere near it..and you can get 1/2 day rentals at about 40.00......check out my deck here on page 1 of my flickr photos....I took two coats of paint off this too bare wood with a 2600 psi one here..take in mind..when you pressure wash....it will raise the grain of the wood..let it dry a day or two..you have to let it dry..do not refinish wet....run a electric sander over the top of it after dry..just to knock the "raised grain" off of it before sealing etc....."

Pressure washer connected to shower? I am a screenprinter, and I bought a a pressure washer (1750 PSI Campbell Hausfeld) to clean my screens in the bathtub. However, there is no garden hose faucet in my 3rd floor rental apartment. Is it safe to hook up the washer to my residential supply, AKA my shower? I have an adapter that connects a garden hose to a shower fixture, but I'm not sure if this would mess up my water heater or what. I don't need the water to be hot. Hey, thanks for the answers so far! Ok, so I measured my GPM, which was 3 gallons/minute. I also noticed that there was some sputtering, i.e. very brief dips in flow rate, every couple seconds, but this was barely noticeable. I tried connecting the electric power washer to the shower through a 15 ft. garden hose. Every time I pull the trigger the lights in my house dim significantly (Its a 1600 W machine), and a very powerful spray comes out, but in a big cloud instead of a fan or jet. The shape of the cloud is not dependent on how I adjust the nozzle. After about 10 seconds of continuous spraying, the power washer really seemed to be struggling, and the RPMs on the motor started getting fearful, and so I shut the thing off quickly and hid - Help! I don't know if its a problem with the flow rate, or with the electricity in my house. I didn't think this thing would be such a crazy beast to operate. by the way, my shower puts out 3 GPM versus the power washer's required 1.3 GPM.

Dino replied: "The only requirement of the power washer is constant water pressure. And know it won't bother the hot water heater, weather you use the hot water or not but be aware the hot water will not last long. Just be sure of what you are letting go down the drain will not harm the drains or the environment. Good luck with this!!"

moonbeam replied: "It will be ok."

nathan f replied: "The water supply from your shower should be sufficient. The specification sheet from your pressure washer will give you a volume measurement in gallons per minute (gpm). Most retail home pressure washers use 1.5-3 gpm, which your shower should easily provide. P.S. I don't think you should count on getting your security deposit back. your dealing with a variety of issues; pressure, spray and power pressure: the ID (inside diameter) of your hose is probably larger than the ID of your shower line. The water supply can't keep up. At the hardware store, look for a "washing machine supply hose". It's shorter and narrower than a regular hose. Spray; The spray is controlled through the nozzle. Read the instructions! Power: I'll bet your using an extension cord. Don't, unless the wire diameter of the extension cord exceeds the wire diameter of the pressure washer. Oh, 1 other thing strikes me. Turn on the water, and let the pressure washer fill with water before you turn it on. Squeeze the trigger until you have a steady stream before you turn it on."
